Retirement Plan

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Retirement Plan

delirious sarcasm

joyful monotony of love

the repetitious array of heart poundings

"Uncle" shouted too many times

by the chapped lips of a now silent mouth

the words stalled on the brink

stalled by your beauty

i wanted that redundant tautology

to reappear again

let me die in your eyes

suffocate on your breath against my tongue

make me mute

because inside i am shouting for the savage pain

to embrace me just one more time

i will die slowly

but perfectly insane

once knowing i had been loved

even if now my ring finger is empty

and my teeth grind from the memories

enamel scrapings all that are left

yet i am a rich man

if heartbreak

is anything like a 401 k.

Gut wrenchingly brilliant Jacob... love that "redundant tautology", not some random pain or memory, but the kind that stays and is there over and over again.... and your finale is right there in the money, rich from heartbreak... damn Jacob... did i say this poem is brilliant yet, cant be redundant in saying this...

thank you for your kind words, Curt.

Indeed a 'taxing' experience when we are put through so much pain and take it only to be abandoned again.
Little comfort from being financially secure though!
As always the metaphors paint the emotions vividly in your writing Jacob.

Intriguing as one gets jacob weaving a write that surrenders to a love no more but has the gold fillings that are icons of reminders. An inspiring write like a Rendell mystery!
