A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

telltale keepsakes

in the junk drawer,

my heart,

under old tattered scarves

and saddened lingerie

memories of nights of silken wonder

texture of skin and bone

the revelations

in the junk drawer

forgotten taboos

the in-between relationship

the November kind of love

but you've forgotten

and put your mirror

on the other side of your vanity

and my face is no longer behind you

the arms of my echoed voice

whisper in muscled tones

but you're in a different room altogether

and i'm shuddering in the dark

of my own token loneliness.

A Token of Love... a Cameo of nights spent...
Now tucked in a Drawer of silk scarves and
unmentionables... in blue. gently, Pat

True, to the side but others often ignore those.
I find some really good pieces there at time.. read more
There are some of those in-between relationships that, after the fact, become more important in our hearts and minds, making the feeling that we are forgotten by that other party all the more painful.

thank you for your words, KL..

It's funny how much sentiment we can find in objects. A mirror especially. How the sight of something can revive the senses of sight, touch, hearing and smell. A sad poem, to me. A longing one at that. I liked this a lot. Brought me into an old pair of shoes.

This made me feel wistfully sad. I'm not very good at critiques and reviews, though, so I'll leave it at that.

I can't think of a lonelier place than a junk drawer. That's where we toss things we don't use but think we might want to keep. sadly most of it gets tossed out with the spring cleaning.

The memories of a treasured but unavailable past can often re-emerge for no apparent reason, which can make the experience so unsettling.
You brought this out so well with your poignant words Jacob.

Never has loneliness echoed so loudly.

"but you've forgotten
and put your mirror
on the other side of your vanity
and my face is no longer behind you"............only you could voice the moving on of someone so viscerally...wow...

dear Jacob... the vanities of your heart can be a three-way mirror of past love.
It can be a gift to cherish and dream upon. The poetry bestowed touches my heart. truly, Pat

Like this. It's like someone in and out of your life.
Not to bothered at first. But then the feelings get stronger. But she cools it. Leaving you totally despondent.
