A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

inside Turner Classics

Frank O'Hara's blues,

with Lana Turner sax

moody temperate soul

she drank, he sank into the cushion

of his writing,

pleading for her to get up

but her party was over before it started

a film n'oir of black and white dreams

in living blond

and his little tv was obsessed

his heart her tube

electrocution of elocution

a jersey shore

sand in his eyes

he wept

then crashed

and his pen no longer begged

for her reincarnation in a poem

movie stars transcend

and poets find certain clouds of endearment

to make sky pilots

out of tragic women

it's raining at the moment

i think i feel some tears falling

even though the poem is silent.

never got a chance to say goodbye

thank you Lana and Frank

i replaced the tube

and still watch that little tv

in my mind,

just before i pick up my pen

and emulate...

the words in blond demeanor

remind me of an ex

who looked something like

she did

before the fall.

Lana Turner--The Sweater Girl--was drop-dead gorgeous.
If you had an ex who even looked something like her, you were--in my eyes--a pretty lucky guy.
Will research Frank O'Hara.
Fascinating piece!

Vivid imagery. This takes the reader into the tunnels of your mind where your most precious memories are safely kept. I enjoyed reading you, thank you!

You can take any thought, any emotion, any memory and turn it into art. You are a true talent Jacob. I'm always awestruck by your work. I don't know much about the stars you speak about but I do know that they must have been something else to have such a profound effect on you. Great write!

imagery emerging with so colour. A simpler time captured and relived on the screen, beautifully romantic (Lana is a knockout). I enjoyed this very much j. Starz x

of all my favorite poems I have read from you Jacob, this one has to be in the top 5... Lana Turner was far from the "sex goddess" Hollywood made her out to be... "words in blond demeanor" fabulous line Jacob and your last lines tragic in both meaning and imagery.... and it had to be a deep fall too taking the "blond" with her...

anyway, it's a poem I will revisit often Jacob...

I watched snippets of some old movies over Christmas. That's what this reminds me of. The stars who were somehow larger than the film, but at the same time not really a part of our lives like they are now. Nicely done, describing this simpler time.

Nice scenes come to mind...as I read.

The form and structure could be a bit more polished, but it is a wonderful thing to read about those lost days of film in black in white.

well who wouldn't want to look like Lana Turner?
No wonder you're in deep!
the transition of the classic
to the contemporary trashy is
stark- where have we gone...
we've lost the romance of life.
i like how the blond stands out,
even in the black and white.

I like the old movies. Real story and the people seem real. I liked how you described the movie and the truthful ending. Thank you Jacob for sharing the amazing poetry.
