today's special

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

today's special

you make me linger over

easy oatmeal feelings

that cream of wheat testimonial

from a heart that often skips

the breakfast of attraction,

and goes straight to a cynical lunch

hoping to be gone by

dinner's appetizer.

The cynical lunch. A dish too many of us know well. Maybe linger at breakfast, and skip dinner.

It's sounds like a full plate but I'll certainly go for seconds!

"easy oatmeal feelings"...love that phrase. When you can feel at home with someone and trust that person, you are truly at home. Romantic in a real way, Jacob. I liked it. Lydi**

A old heart that is getting tired of the old rigmarole of love - one that has become set in it's ways - reminded me of the joke 'Why get married - just find some woman you hate and give her your house!!"

And then again there is hope here - thought's of maybe...just maybe...

don't we all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day?! oatmeal keeps the heart from stopping up we are also told .. cream of wheat tho quite thin still has some redemption in brown sugar and heavy cream ... cynicism does tend to close ones eyes to attractions .. pity says i! i can use all the attractions around ;) no wonder the appetizer is missed as your protagonist skipped breakfast .. he/she must be a dedicated over-achiever :)) its 4:43 am by my atomic clock and your poem has inspired me to plan my day .. starting soon with breakfast
