gray feathers

gray feathers

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

gray feathers

once had an enormous wingspan

now merely a shortened lifespan

and the flying is all in my mind

not the reality kind.

Had to laugh at this write. Funny how fast those years can fly by. Need to keep flying in our minds though, can't give up. Valentine

I loved the way you expressed this one!!!!! Kathie
Jacob, are you old???? hmmm if the wingspan is still wide, grey wings fly just as high as when there was a longer life span... well at least til that trickster Arthur Itis comes visiting... until then (and even after) fly Jacob, fly....

agree with Jazz Lover below, it is a novel way to describe aging... and it doesn't appear to me that you will ever go "gentle into the night"...

I thought this was a funny way of framing aging. I like how positive it is too. Aging doesn't have to confine the mind and its vibrant imagination. This poem says to me you never truly lose your wings, they just turn colors.

Lovely write.

With every passing year philosophy of life changes. Your short write speaks out the facts loud. " The flying is all in my mind". Beautiful, Sir.
Mind can take us any high..

"When I was young I thought of growing old
Of what my life would mean to me
Would I have followed down my chosen road
Or only wished what I could be

Mr. Mister - Kyrie Eleison Lyrics.

These are the lyrics that popped into my mind when I read this.

I've flown in my mind maybe too many times. I'm not sure if I would know the road ahead if I saw it.

thank you, Tim...yes, one of the good 80's songs...
The new year begins and we realize we are closer to the end of your lives than we are to the start. We can still fly in dreams though...and in poetry. Lydi**

What a beautiful write that speaks of the human life. Life is pretty short to do all those things that we dream of doing, but we may not do all of them but we can fly with our wings in our never ending world inside our mind.

so much to do, so very little time j, the bucket list gets longer, our live's shorter indeed leaving us only to dream our dreams be it travelling or whatever .

hmm ...yes, but we hold onto cherished memories and experiences forever, if only in our heads. we can also live vicariously through others lol. “None are so old as those who have outlived enthusiasm.” - Thoreau

yes, when we outlive enthusiasm we really are dead inside aren't we?
