A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

just another possible sighting

we were yellow journalism

the break-up smeared on pages

in National Enquirer fashion,

the alien hearts infiltrating

a very human love

believable

inevitable

inexhaustible

forever-able

and then

some ship of fools consequence landed

invaders of trust

invaders of thoughts

invaders, shapeshifters

love shifters

trust shifters

the edge of sanity

the edge of the moon

two faces

flawed

unrecognizable

the mirror children

too immature to fix the cracks in the reflection

we screamed endings

we took the phone off the hook

we avoided interviews with therapists

so they wrote poems about us as they wanted

they formed us

reformed us

distorted who we were

into who we are now

just a belief to some

and to others

something that never existed.

thank you, prachi.

Well j. the first thing that came to mind was Tommy Lee Jones' character in Men inn Black advising Will Smith that the Enquirer et al were the only place to get the real news. Sadly it appears he was right. Good write.

yes, sadly, these days...might be.

thank you, Ted.

The establishment news media may have become so malignantly politicized that the National Enquirer--for what it covers--could now be a more reliable news source.
Somehow, we--the people--whom the great institutions were created to serve, no longer even make their top-ten list.
This had better change.
Yet another deeply insightful poem, Jacob; one which, in all likelihood, has little to do with my review.

first of all jacob....as you well know, journalism as we once knew it is dead. Orwell wrote in 1949 "1984" a fictional novel about constant war and journalistic oppression..and now it has become true. Journalist are afraid to speak for fear (a real fear) of being castigated and shouted down. It is "the edge of sanity which makes the world unrecognizable. Other alien lifeforms took up the mantra and wrote poems about how silly the "poet"s were to speak of love and life when those endings could be so easily manipulated.

We are the only truth tellers left alive my friend. and we shall be the only one's heretofore. great poem....dana

The epitaph of a relationship can be written by outsiders and each person sees something else. They do invade the relationship and its aftermath. I enjoyed the word choice in this one, Jacob. Lydi**

thank you Lydi....you are always so supportive and encouraging of my writing...

I like this but possibly not for what you meant it to be. Having lately been blocked by two writers that I really enjoy reading, your last 3 groupings somewhat express how I am feeling. Condemned without a trial. Valentine
