A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

at the institution

raining

sounds

roof

strong

tapping

can't get in

the Raven loses this time

i am not drowned in my own sorrow

i am drinking from it

and getting deliriously drunk on the tears

but they can't get inside my heart

they fall by my window

i watch them,

raining

sounds

roof

strong

tapping

can't get in

nevermore

i smile,

take another belt

now totally insane

the window turns white

i don't hear anything, now

except a slight flutter of wings.

Hmmm.. this one is either a great metaphor for love and life...

.. or a description of a psychotic break-down.

Either way... quite intense.

I enjoyed it.

I like the sound of rain on a roof. I like Poe. I like the odd beverage. I like this poem. Good write, j.

thank you for your kind words, Ted....

Well one way of getting inebriated is drinking Poe's potion. Cheers to the sorrows!

The window opens and the flutter are the wings, the imagination has been set free. The rain and the melancholy feelings are a heightened poetic sense!

your reply is so poetic...i like it better than the poem...thank you, Michael.

Imagination and the way you described tears, sorrows and drinking of sorrows was the highlight of this poem.

As always wits on high!

Very clever take on the Raven, or at least that's how I read it. You can almost see Poe sitting in a santiarium.

Favorites lines...

i am drinking from it
and getting deliriously drunk on the tears

You smile and take another belt...of drink from your own sorrow. I like the way you lay out the image of that. Valentine

Those ravens are very smart j.
I mean realllllly smart.
That 80's song - 'The Lunatics are taking over the asylum' was playing in the background of my mind while I read this - present company excepted lol

thank you, Tony...:))))
top notch sir! love the repeating verse ..love the Raven omen and just the right hint of wings fluttering in closing .. the breaks lead me without question ..easy read ..uncomplicated yet complex .. leaks in the roof can be positively torturous and so hard to pin point to fix ..very fine read for me!
