rooms for rent

rooms for rent

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Inspired by richieb's poem "Look up to the Sky, Jack Kerouac"

"

rooms for rent

any of the old Beats who are left

have nose hairs stretching to the page

and arthritic poetic fingers

pushing the century mark

they read old poems left in their attic minds

trying from memory,

but failing to find sense of the words they cared so much about

when a time was that some actually listened,

now everyone just talks and rants

and promotes his or her own wounds

bleeding profusely from the mouth

or the page,

but no one reads anymore

they just drive past the nursing homes

riddled with disinterest

spilling sonnet sodas on concrete hearts

devastation in numbers

young poets write graffiti prose

against a wind of change

sniffing at the breeze,

trying to imagine

how the Beats ever found

any rhythm at all....

Wow! Wow! Wow! I'm in love!!! Great write, j.! This so profoundly describes my struggles. I often wonder how Poe, Dickinson, Plath, etc. wrote so many masterful works. The depth and feeling in those prose gives me goose bumps. I've also been pondering over Jeff Buckley's line, "She is the tear that hangs inside my soul forever." Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever write something so timeless..

Love this one.

You're welcome. :)
very thought provoking, J !

Appreciation of art has not been the same and we are moving fast in the age of scientific discoveries. While we see people loaded with different gadgets and knowledge accessible easy on Internet, the classical way of living is dying.

So much has changed in the world of literature
And often with this fast world we move in
Many lose their sense of emoting
And are left with complaints that gather no end and Hold very little hope for beginnings

We wander lost trying to find true emotion
On a paper. On someone's face
Anything

I really like this
We are often left with room inside other people's lives that are for rént
Only to be evicted in seconds
