it just figures

it just figures

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

it just figures

finding pain in perpendicular

outcomes,

the graph shows intersection

heart, impaled by words

actions on crossed lines

that cross lines

empathy bleeds

poets do the math

but write in semantic inclines

not equations

love doesn't always add up to a perfect sum

yet the work to get to the solution

is the reward,

and sometimes we do

find pain in perpendicular

outcomes

but that is the unknown variable

and is always a factor

even when the smiles survive

the computation.

of course if figures. the figures always figure us out, and we are left with our weeping figures in the corners, scraping it up. trying to figure out where we went wrong

I love the way you display your thoughts in such a way that uses mathematical terms to sum up all of your thoughts. I got out of this almost a feeling of don't be so worried about the perfection of a piece as the meaning of it ("reward") behind it. I love where you write "But that is the unknown factor
even when the smiles survive
the computation"
It gives me the feeling that writing out your words comes with an unknown pain that may come with it, but it's worth it. Just my perception somewhat.
