wishing for seconds

wishing for seconds

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

wishing for seconds

toc-tic toc-tic

like rewinding the reels of a flick

i toss aside today's breakfast for

yesterday's lunch

and find you sitting across from me

staring that sandwich smile

onto my plate

i take a bite and remember your strong hands

hoisting me over your head,

as i sit there wondering what kind of thoughts

you are masticating in there now

and eventually it really doesn't matter

just imagining we are seeing a similar movie

is enough.

I feel it, Jacob. Every word...
This is why they say time is precious.

I love the innocent need of a child to think just like his parent, such a touching read, its amazing how much you can say only in little lines! I love the effect the sounds create, nostalgia.

This is a moving poem. I know how it feels when you miss someone and you cannot do anything but to imagine and wish that person is with you even for a moment.

No time we wish for is enough. Very touching poem.
I imagine a little Jacob being hoisted up high for an airplane ride...
Those are memories to cherish. :)

Jacob, we all wish for seconds from time to time; but the natural order of things will ever have its way.

The plate may be scraped clean, but the taste lingers on in memory.

Incredibly heartfelt lines.
