rabid apathy

rabid apathy

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

rabid apathy

bats search

for the crack of dawn

telephone lines to rest

line drive wings

over the fence of catastrophe

home plate shattered

America in the dark,

street lights burnt out for profit

souls burnt out for free

and Lady Liberty waves the white kerchief

dangerous practice, when those bats are flying

and no one in the stands is paying attention.

The players are swinging but there are no fans because the audience doesn't care.
Applicable to politics, religion, education... this spiral quickly and no one wants to step up.

thank you for your insightful view, Ana.

I couldn't agree with Sami more. A service rep for the VFW sends me emails, web sites, YouTube videos about all the rot that is America.

Damn it is fucked up!

Al

yes, it is...thank you, Al.

I checked the symbolism of bats and here is what I got:
"The bat is a symbol of rebirth and depth because it is a creature that lives in the belly of the Mother (Earth). From the womb-like caves it emerges every evening at dusk."

I don't know your poet's intention but I can can see that the people of America want a rebirth of their ideals and go back to the founding fathers' vision and not companies' visions of control and domination, even the media is one of the culprits for it is a propaganda machine and not real news like the good old days. They just want to sway Americans to their agenda or partisan doctrines. An excellent write, Jacob. Forgive me if I missed...:)..........
