This reminds me of the office affair.
Where people blank each other, thinking nobody knows.
Going through the same charade day after day.
But unless both are fantastically clever, everybody knows.

just like the Dave Clark Five sang..."everybody knows"--
Things don't always seem as they appear,
I know I was walking through life with a smile on my
face doing day to day things as my marriage was failing:(
I really enjoyed reading this piece, thanks for sharing and b-blessed!

There's nothing worse than feeling eyes staring at you because of "a situation" - wishing you could carry on as if nothing had ever happened. Sometimes the truth is very hard to accept - especially in matters of the heart.
how we do weave our deceits ...from ourselves and others ..and how elusive the road ahead becomes as a result ..your poem makes me think of a lot of things .. always fresh these days are the politicians and news coverage ... i think your poem is clever as always ..very relateable ...being an introvert i am perhaps too familiar with my own inner swirls of thought, feelings and miseries ;) ..being sure to end on a treasured one is probably healthier than not ..tho it is still a memory

.. 'like i have some idea - of where i am going - a secret - my own heart keeps - from me.
Love's like that in most situations!
A worded this-way-that; a hinted coupling/uncoupling in pendulum style so the reader can interpret however he or she matches the beat; a bafflement of phrases that give little away, All written in style, loosely metered, legible!
Gorgeous! I loved these lines: "everyone's about their day, but i can't toss the night of you, over my shoulder,"
Very well written. I like how you don't tell us exactly what happened, but we understand the mood through your choice words. Very nice.
This is utterly beautiful, Jacob... There was something about the line, "inside i'm still outside your heart...", that had filled these eyes with melancholy tears ever so briefly. This does have that 'lost love' sensation to it... Yet, I feel so much more in this brilliant write. As if this is a love that has yet to truly blossom, a love shared during a single night seemingly leaving behind an ongoing imprint. An affair that possibly should not have happened, and yet, did despite the sidelong stares. A sense of aimless wandering, tugged into the sunset by a dream unrevealed even to oneself. As if someone is falling regardless of knowing if there will be arms willing to catch them. The secrets... The things we won't even confess to ourselves. This was masterfully done.
