Thought provoking! I think there is an element of philanthropy in most good poets, Jacob. Like the evangelist's of life, we share our words, on the hope of them touching someone, somewhere; what is art if it does not evoke some kind of emotional response? The title hauled in into this one!

i think you are spot on...poets write because of a need...but share because of a need to feel the words are worth something...and not in a financial way...
