the history of what-if's

the history of what-if's

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the history of what-if's

there were articles of confederation

and then there were confederate articles

with our love,

an autumn fling,

a summer's moribund dream

the inevitable ending

we were the grey

evolving from the halcyon skies

that sprinkled stardust into our eyes

only to cloud our vision

with reality of age

seasons seem much longer in youth

but love is much more ephemeral

when skies are indecisive

and hearts match the rainbows

disappearing with immediacy

almost as quickly as they appear...

but we remember dreams don't we

you and i

do you ever think of re-entering mine?

I've often wondered if some of the fond memories of my past ever take the time to remember like I do - this one brought a smile to my heart :)

Memory lane can be a joy or a lonely one to visit. I like the line "seasons seem much longer in youth" how true I think added responsibilities shorten our free time in adult life. I was happy to be Peter Pan, but society would not allow it or my folks lol.would have loved the free love of the sixties but it wasn't my time. Yes the What if's of life

It feels like a memory or a piece of one broke through here and demanded a stage. Do you revisit old hurt to feel the twinge or is this instead the coping skills of one used to ups and downs? Either way I enjoy the reaction it has in me and it feels simple sweet and compelling. Thank you.

thank you for your kind words, William...

I love these glimpses. The older we get the gentler some memories enter our psyches.

it's an unanswered and perhaps unanswerable question Jacob, but one that needs to be posed... "when skies are indecisive/ and hearts match rainbows" who would not want this to last?? I liked this line Jacob dreams are made of these and should be remembered... perhaps she will and smile and "re-enter" again...

interesting how you metaphorically use the civil war in this poem Jacob, to me this kind of intense love affair hardly even has a good outcome, they burn to hot and yes they do "disappear with immediacy".. anyway, not trying to just repeat your words here, but more, the poem is hitting me harder as I type and think about it... it is fun reading your words Jacob..
