mud cats

mud cats

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

mud cats

blood is thicker than water,

so they say

but there is a Mississippi river

of bad blood

separating us from each other

sand bars of aggression forming petrified strains

that forever impede the flow

and cause current affection

to become a quicksand mirror

of the past.

I have found that when certain issues remain unresolved, years and decades can pass by in a twinkle of an eye... with the same issues dividing...

...and the only thing that's different is that everyone is so much older....

Nicely done, you!

Nicely done. The use of the Mississippi splendid, the emotional communication well told in the curves and power of the imagery.
The use of the proverb stated in the first line, is carried through well.
I would like to say that some more punctuation could benefit this piece, and yet this work does not seem to be disadvantaged by its absence.

The Mississippi is a damn wide river, Jacob. Thoughtful reflective wording on your part. I like to see to that kind of emotion just kind of hanging on the surface to be interpreted. Another good one of yours for sure. CD
