So Many Miles

So Many Miles

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

So Many Miles

all the cars on the lifts

survey the scene---

the others surround them with

broken axles, broken hearts

Flat tires, deflated egos

the war scratches

on the seams of bodies

the old creaky doors like

contrary voices speaking up

squeaking up---

the view from the top

they wince at the deluge of deflation

and broken down laughter

--

but are remiss in recognizing

their own blemishes---

the reason they are on the lifts--

and how their faults are exposed

for all the rest to see---

people on pedestals have blemishes

as well---

we all creak/scream in pain

and need restoration

repair---

and have an air

of vulnerability---

I like the similes, creative and an original way to describe brokenness, vulnerability yet with a soothing attitude; something we all carry inside of us.

You're welcome.
Could be nicely applied to the US Presidential race--or, for that matter, any candidate's run for office.
Being on "lifts" does indeed expose faults--a very necessary process. Something we often forget.
Your gratifyingly apt metaphors are highly instructive, Mr. E.
