sunburned mind

sunburned mind

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

sunburned mind

the old man sinking in the marsh
has been pulled from the reeking weeds
and is sailing on a sun kissed surface

his heart finding youth again
and new memories to lose
but savor for the fleeting floating seconds

that rise to meet the bluebirds
singing in his ear,
the old eyes are smiling

and my heart is nesting
comfortably
with the knowledge his sky

has found a rebirth of halcyon wonder.

People always mention the good old days, like that was it.
But in reality, yesterday could be that day.
Saying that, kids don't know they're born these days.

More than a touch valedictory, combined with an enviable wistfulness. This could have gotten of the rails and gone a little soppy, but folks who write this well just don't do that.

dear Jacob... I also take refuge in the birds and their song.
A beautiful poem of nature's healing effect as we age on
life's stage. truly, Pat
