I first thought of this poem as a birthday poem on reading the first stanza but now the end of it leaves me confused and thinking but then again, I have re-read and am no longer confused.

appreciate that you re-read...and however you see it, that is how it is...
been sitting on this one for awhile
29 year- feels like a distance
and she keeps wishing away mainstream things
but they keep popping up- like they always do
her breath is refreshing... but she has to keep lighting
and blowing out the candles
wishing wisdom and experience would win out in this world.

really like this interpretation---thank you, Bacchus.
sounds like someone torching all chances or burning bridges, she's a giver but doesn't take her own advice...this could be any one of us, myself included...wrapping...false bravado, all good walls maybe fear, maybe every time she shines she loses... something.

Your work honestly shows me what possibilities are. Endless possibilities of the art of poetry. I wonder, how long does it take you to compose a poem? Is it an easy, quick process for you? Or one with difficulties and many changes to your original? Or perhaps both?

I enjoyed the poem. It could read many different ways with different interpretations. Without "waxing" philosophical, I can say that I loved the imagery of all that dripping mess. Glad to see you're still plugging along. CD
Love this jacob. Don't know how many candles it takes to acquire the ultimate wisdom of life, quite a few i'm sure. Just wondering if the final pack of matches is for the funeral pyre.
beware the millennials ... bruahahahaha! if we are smart we do keep one foot in the homestead door as we venture into a brave new world .. change is never easy ..i think,however, she relights the candles to make larger wax puddles to cling to the frosting and cake when they are removed .. always a rush to lick off the ends ;) then again ... maybe the intent is to burn the whole damn place down .. :{

You always write with such agility, both in the use of metaphors and the theme itself. Here seems there are veils about the person, the reader has to remove them one by one by one to find a meaning.
For me the woman is that age, twenty-nine.. still young, still learning about Life and what it holds. And yet, has the ability to see more and deeper as if needing to experience everything before she actually needs. Perhaps an awareness of how brief life can be, might be. At each negative she experiences, she learns something new.. but in spite of surrendering, she 're-lights the candles' and carries on.
Perhaps no need to compliment your use of language, style, flow and more...

dear Jacob... another pack of matches...
playing with hearts on fire with desire...
A deck of cards with a pair of hearts
and an Ace out of place... truly, Pat
