Instamatic

Instamatic

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Instamatic

the autumn leaves were falling all around me

as i watched her in her Pendleton jacket

posing by the golden tree

and background mountains smiling

with cool blue grins

love in New England as he held the camera tight

as if he were holding her memory forever

and now that snapshot eludes him

but somehow the feel of the moment

still turns shades of yesterday

into a photograph that rakes

across his consciousness

when the fickle moon lets him develop

the film.

We've all got some memorable "snapshots" no camera could ever have fully captured.
Of course, such special pictures have been years in development.
Perceptive write!

I can almost smell the McIntosh crisp air as I read this one, Jacob. I enjoyed the Autumn metaphor. I think those instamatic cameras took photos that held more meaning than the ones taken on an iPhone. I liked the personification and the metaphor. Lydi**

It takes just fractions of seconds to snap memories, but often lifetimes to bring them properly back into focus. So glad you used film... "edit it in Photoshop" just doesn't have the same verisimilitude.

When you blink slow can you see her on the black screen that is your lid(s)?
This is lovely.

This one is spectacular Jacob; don't get me wrong, you are a diverse and creative poet... but this one has a level of balance which transcends the majority of your work. That moment that you can paint an image, and a feeling... as more than mere metaphor. I really love the ending, the transition to the fourth stanza is great, and It leaves you wondering how the moon conjures the memories of those moments. It isn't just the moon, there is something more... perhaps an impression rather than an image?

Memories cannot truly be captured except in our minds, but we try ... the passing of the seasons brings on new life, and sometimes, the passing of love ... til the next.

The beauty of nature inspiring the beauty of love ... alas it appears the love disappeared with the seadon. Great write, Jacob:)
