Tick Tick Tick

Tick Tick Tick

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Tick Tick Tick

it's 9:21
the clock's hands
inching closer to midnight
and 9/11

another year of fear
another anniversary of smoke and flames
and tossed cocktails from windows of our souls
the silver winged devils finding their targets

the hearts of a country
the wavering flag
mile high offices of wealth
bombers of stealth

loathing
capitalism crumbling in the streets of fire
the world in dire straits
and getting deeper in debt

the kind that overdraws hate
when the account is in senseless bankruptcy
and the robbers wear blank masks
calling this havoc

just a day at the office.

"and tossed cocktails from the window of our souls."

Damn all that good wasted booze but the line is in league with Crown Royal.

Al

Just a day at the office. It's amazing what can become normal in such a short period of time.

stopped me from travelling 9/11. A well thought out piece Jacob of your usual high standard on deliverance and a sad reminder of an angry world..

Still remember exactly what I was doing that day, where I was, and how I felt.
A good poem of remembrance Jacob.

You're welcome Jacob
I was debating on writing something for such a tragic day, but my style would contradict the gravity of September 11th. You make many serious points in this piece that honestly kept my eyebrows raised, "...capitalism crumbling in the streets of fire
the world in dire straits
and getting deeper in debt..." Have I mentioned how fluent your imagery is? Wow, what a read.
