the piercing quiet

the piercing quiet

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the piercing quiet

fencing with commitment

the wound was slight,

but the poison ran deep

a slight touch to the heart

the blade unsure,

a cut like Hamlet's

no cure,

just a matter of time

until i fell to the tombs

listless

asking that you might have a good word for me

in future,

while all stood aghast,

watching my fervor for love

bleed out onto a floor

of insurrection

and as the distrusting Dane said,

"the rest is silence"

There are no new stories to tell it seems. Just new players on renovated stages...
Your talent is one thing a reader can count on.

i really love this...the spell-binding imagery...your word-weaving...depicting of dark passions...brutal betrayal, a sort of re'telling of Shakespeare's "hamlet" ...is just splendid...and is testimony of your poetic gifts. i love the
ending...was just the icing on this delicious cake. thank you for sharing...X

Our passions drive us. Whether it's love, hate, revenge, or something as simple, as just getting out of bed.
We are driven. At times, blindly. But it's that drive, that gives us the will to live. Inspires us. Inspires others. Without which, most likely we'd still be lying in bed, listless. I would think that "silence" is finally finding the kind of peace, we all seek.

Especially after everything...

I haven't read Hamlet in years, I'd love to read it again. Excellent piece.

It's Sunday morning and i'm suffering from forced alcohol syndrome. Feeling the madness of Ophelia here, or the madness of my hangover. Either way, a knife to the heart is probably the cure.Always think present day relationships mirror Shakespeare's plays. Always tragedy lurking around. Great write as ever jacob.

This is so fascinating! Incorporating the Shakespearean concept into this lovely piece is magnificent. His tragedies were always my favorite topics to discuss in British Literature. In my opinion, this is simply amazing. Well done my friend!

Wow! I can't stress how important it is to learn early modern English. The influence of our words. I.. read more
i enjoyed watching the fencing in the Olympics just past .. it is so noble and quick .. one can hardly see the points made .. tragedy of tragedies ..all die ... "the rest is silence" if its only earth and bones ;) your showing some of your roots in this one i wager ... reading the language of Shakespeare is not easy but so worthwhile .. you give us a quick modern version that hits the nitty gritty of it all ..

Very modern Shakespearean tilt. A noble heart still bleeds.

Someone is on a roll and it isn't me. You have more poetry in you than Carter has liver pills.

WOW!

Al

like Hamlets... no cure
But maybe perchance
"to sleep, perchance to dream..."
thank you for including us in all your dreams
fulfilled or the ones that long to be.
