no reprisal from the ashes

no reprisal from the ashes

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

no reprisal from the ashes

i wrote a first draft of a poem

but then shut the window

shivered one more time

then threw the pen

into the fire,

walked outside the cabin

trudged several feet through snow white pages

turned an eerie inkish blue,

watched my writing churn smoke from the chimney

then flew away

with the words under wing

looking forward to a different thing.

You are truly one of the few (and I mean few) writers that I envy for your ability to paint your words into such striking images that I can't help but love the canvas you convey. It's just striking the way that you write.

Oh, lovely. So picturesque. Happens with many, doesn't it? Good witty words used there. Keep writing.

I can identify! So often I start to write and by the time I am finished, I have gone off in a totally different direction. The wind brings words to us and then sweeps them away just as quickly. Great metaphor...which is not surprise from you! Lydi**

oh I like how this is about a draft coming in... but you never say draft.
A blowing draft of a writing draft... too cool. Very, very clever.

The difficult and exhausting writing process. I like your metaphors very much. The rhyming ending added to a feeling of final release.
