A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

another matter

this time five
no longer alive,

the badges of distinction
blue moribund to extinction

authority's breeches
beaches of whales with hungry bellies

Jonas find their way into the stomach
and violence yawns again

Job sits pondering the angry sky
he hears bullets from century's future
the sound in biblical proportion
to the extortion of hate

bombs bursting in antagonistic smiles
the whales belch

more shots explode the night
a country mourns,
an ocean dries up amidst the sorrow

the badges of distinction
lend tears to extinction

an educated guess---
God didn't write the transcript
to have this ending

but peace in our lifetime
seems
no longer pending

Violence and hate never seems to be satiated.

No..........it will not, not till civilization is changed by it.
'he hears bullets from century's future.' That's a line that kicks like a mule! Wish it wasn't the truth, but it probably is.

Sadly, I agree with the views expressed here. We took a giant leap backwards last week. Peace? Not sure even my granddaughters will see it. Lydi**

Huge and epic proportions on the time scale of life's events. Let the word go out, Peace in our time, Peace for all mankind.

you know i love when poets bring biblical proportions to their writing...
makes things deeper, stronger... almost like doubling a metaphor.

thanks j. for writing like you do.

So much hatred and violence in this world. Ugghh! Please make it stop. I think this piece highlights it well. I especially like the last stanza. Great job.

It is sad to see how much hate can take the front for so many
More than we know it

And once it strikes one part of the earth it surely is felt by the world
Distance for some reason never really creates a barrier when a disaster strikes

Only there is one line that strikes out the most

God didn't write this ending and will never do
So as much as some try to make hate take the front seat
It never will

Sorry for the long review
I guess I felt a lot

Peace seems elusive. When one person is superior because of his religion or the colour of his skin then the teachings of Job, Jonas or any other messenger for that matter becomes futile.
The ending of civilizations has been mentioned in the Revealed Books. We are slowly but surely heading towards the way it was intended.

Xenophobia does not depend on skin colour. Any trait can be focused on to foster animosity to another group seen as different. A country must nurture the values that nurture peace. It starts with supplying a well-funded and quality educational system. Where openness and multiculturalism is fostered. Where a tonic to xenophobia is offered. The answer to the turmoil is not increased turmoil, as seems to be the strain the media and those in fear are offering up. Start spending less on prisons and the military and start spending on education and empowering people. As Horace Mann pointed out over a 150 years ago ... education is the great equalizer.
