severance pay,

your empty eyes

my poorly compensated heart

which now must find employment

with another negative on its resume.

I always like your take on everyday things that happen to all of us. I love the line, "my poorly compensated heart." I think as writers we also suffer from, "...another negative on..." our resume.

Well done.

WOW.....a friend of mine who was single and in his 60's once told me every first date was like an interview. It's so true. How many of the negatives does one reveal? Hiding them seems selfish and devious, but then again..... Jacob, I continue to be amazed at the metaphors that fly your way. Great one. Lydi**

A sad and dull, hurting piece. A notion of numbness in your words. I absolutely adore the line "my poorly compensated heart". Such a good word choice.
