the second recess

the second recess

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the second recess

we had such perfect chemistry,

but the math was off by years

my adolescent tongue

lost its English speaking savvy

and my speech class consisted of me

composing hello's

while you were speaking goodbyes

in some foreign language,

from a class i never took

and when the school bell rang

you got a ride home from someone else

while i carried my own education

off a teenage cliff

falling both for you and from you

at the same time.

thank you, Corset,
j.
I didn't come close on my crushes, let's see, Charmaine. However, while I wiled away in my confusion I'm sure some girls had crushes on me.

My cliff was a death wish! Thanks to the guys it never happened. Nice write Jacob!

Regards,
Al

Crushes come and crushes go, they are called crushes because they hurt, ut eventually you forget why you ever hurt in the first place.

sometimes yes...thank you Dale,

I read a deep childhood crush and feeling that were never returned and a cut that hasn't healed.

Ah, those elusive almosts -- we think about them more often as we get older.

Gosh, I do remember those teenage years. Falling in and out...
Everything was so super intense.

Beautifully written! I love how the message is constructed from school imagery.

Anytime dear
Reminds me of the song, "My eyes adored you"...not the words, but the mood. Standing in the hallway, watching while the one you long to be with is smiling and flirting with another. Oh yes, I think all of us can relate to that. Being tongue tied because you want so badly to get to know that one person....and still wondering years later about "what ifs". You went back to your youth this week with your writing. I am enjoying every one of these. Lydi**

I read this one several times just to drink in the mood, the general tone and your exquisite words. You seem to have nice yet poignant memories of your younger ages while I wished I could change or delete those past years of mine somehow... Though maybe I think differently about it in some years. I especially adore your two closing lines, again so relatable to me.
