billions of heartbeats later

billions of heartbeats later

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

billions of heartbeats later

pterodactyl wings

dinosaur disdain, still felt

like you were some kind of prehistoric love

that died in a meteor shower of selfishness

and i?

the Triceratops to your T-Rex indifference

found myself a satiating meal

for your greedy appetite

leaving nothing but a few small remains

bones of a heart

to fossilize

and be found millions of years later

by some Anthropologist who may piece

the relics of me back together, enough

to make sense

of what i once was.

(bones of a heart to fossilize and be found millions of years later by some Anthropologist who may piece the relics of me back together, enough to make sense of what i once was.) Awesome word painting Jacob! Me thinks you are much too young to become fossilized yet! Great writing...as always. ~Sharon

thank you, Sharon...yes, wish i were much too young, but alas.

A very nice theme to write about. The title is pretty interesting and so is the poem. A very deep-thought and vividly-expressed piece of poetry. Keep writing.

thank you for your kind words, Vatsal.

From one bone an entire dinosaur can be recreated so surely one small piece of a broken heart could be made whole again with the right hands :)

The days of love gone by do leave us feeling like we were devoured by something monstrous that chewed up the best part of who we were. Good poem Jacob.

Such an original way of conveying a common theme:consumed, chewed up, spit out, eaten alive, etc.

Sometimes our past loves make us feel like dinosaurs. p.s., in the last stanza, did you mean to put in a "to" after enough?
