on a small table in the back of the eye

on a small table in the back of the eye

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

on a small table in the back of the eye

rummage sale, hearts

cheap gifts to the poor

seeking alms for mere mention of love

small signs of enticement

ruptured prices

taken home for a pittance

then forgotten for remittance

and bled onto another table

to be purchased

for even less than a full heartbeat.

Sounds like a lonely hearts fete, sad indeed Jacob. Excellent work!

Sometimes wonderful treasures can be found at rummage sales but this poor heart sounds like it's definitely seen better days however in the hopes of being optimistic ...you never know ;)

First off, the image in the title draws me in, and then the content of the poem holds me there. It is something that we cannot deny, and it makes the eyes bleed -- our endless attempts at holding on to love.
