a ladybug's hard landing

a ladybug's hard landing

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a ladybug's hard landing

fireflies altercate

musty odor of sweating bulls

she is the matador,

waving the red scarf,

and rose colored tattoo

into the wind of chance

but lights dim to her eyes

and she finds nothing of beauty

away she crawls like a mud worm shunning the moon

left alone, she cries

and her heart flashes asleep

the clowns creep in the darkness

trying to create smiles

but all the while, she is tying the scarf

in knots,

like the ones in her throat

as the men begin to pass by her

unnoticed

flying in opposite directions

than her intentions.

Here comes charm! This sad story, beautifully rendered, just oozes with the charm of an old Nitty Gritty Dirt Band song.

I love these poems! Great title!

Al

A very vivid and picturesque poem. The scenery is art movie-like, easy to imagine and to become entangled in your clear descriptions. There are a lot of different images for my mind to handle but in a good way. One strong image follows the other, a lot to process, to choose from.

Anytime.
Wow!! I adore the song, "Bring in the clowns"
which is my first reaction to your poem. It is sad that aging
would be like a worm avoiding the moon. We can be young
again through poetry, so I avoid dark poetry. But the new
arthritis in my shoulders and hands and knee cannot
be ignored. Jacob, when I read your poetry, I am swept
away by the depth of emotions. truly, Pat

I read this as a lady of beauty but her beauty is waning, she is lonely and time is running out. The men see the desperation and flee. A superb write

Do we intentionally attract the wrong people in life? Are our actions the fault of it all? Perhaps the knots in the scarf are roadblocks to happiness. I think some people are more attractive to the opposite sex when they are younger and those are the ones who develop great self esteem. The wallflowers at high school dances are often late bloomers, but they don't realize it themselves. Your poetry continues to make me think...and that is a good thing. Lydi**

This made me think of a friend of mine who seems to attract the wrong men in her life (again and again) - it almost seems intentional though - your words create interesting images for me in this one - I quite like lady bugs and have seen a few of them experience hard landings so the title is very fitting :)

For me, I am reminded of a woman, once beautiful, now trying too hard, and it seems sad, as she is looking for love in the wrong way, and not realizing that is not how to go about it anymore.

They sold the downtown GrandRiver Cafe I used to pause at - it's now to be an ethnic eatery (of sorts or sortless). Life moves on and so do we. Seems we all have our "visions" of what we believe and how we believe them. I "saw" a 20-something getting her world ROCKED as she realized she wasn't the center of everyone else's universe ...anymore.
