momentA Poem by jacob erin-cilberto
you
offered your virginity in a heavy breath, i turned up the radio, and had a smoke, inhaling the virtues that could blow away in
a ring of regret
as a song played by a one-hit wonder and i imagined myself like that artist, you would recall down
the road
probably never
remembering my flip-side or my sad attempt to
follow up on the notoriety of that
kiss and such
a moment recorded on a
silver dollar survey to be put in a box of
"forget-me-not's" totally obliterated
vinyl no longer playable
then i had another
cigarette as you covered up your
disappointment and i realized too late how much i would regret
my decision
every time i heard that
song play in a future,
that spun tunes
without you.
