A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

moment

you offered your virginity

in a heavy breath,

i turned up the radio,

and had a smoke,

inhaling the virtues

that could blow away in a ring of regret

as a song played

by a one-hit wonder

and i imagined myself

like that artist,

you would recall down the road

probably never remembering my flip-side

or my sad attempt to follow up

on the notoriety of that kiss and such

a moment recorded on a silver dollar survey

to be put in a box of "forget-me-not's"

totally obliterated vinyl

no longer playable

then i had another cigarette

as you covered up your disappointment

and i realized too late

how much i would regret my decision

every time i heard that song

play

in a future,

                  that spun tunes

            without you.

Gee
All of us have songs, music, that bring out a wide range of emotions in us. I think that if I had a song for the first time I had sex it would be called....." 30 seconds, stained jeans and bitter disappointment " Superbly written Jacob, but for you, normal.

Music is a powerful catalyst for memories. Then again, sometimes we played it off key from the start only to realize later that we had been tone deaf and never knew it.

the one hit wonder ...how sad ... you must write three happy poems in a row now Sir jacob! ... really appreciate the vinyl time setting ...man! .. scratching the tune cross cuts a line through the heart :((( finger nails on chalk boards and glass yeeeeeow! i feel so bad for your speaker ..very effective poem for me.

all right ..i am looking for them :)
When the music starts playing and we can remember every taste, touch, sound....well, that is magical...or haunting as the case may be. Regrets, they come back even when we push them away many times. This was a wonderful first poem for me to read after returning from vacation, Jacob. Great work. Lydi**

Thoughtful lines studded with a feeling of past, a going back to memories and former emotions mingled with present sentiments. The tune of your poem really drew me in, I feel deeply content when reading this. It's great.

You're welcome.
Liked this a lot. This provoked images for me of James Dean, of a scene from a thriller ( black and white) from the fifties, this is full of smoke, of vinyl, of radio, of dollars...fine, evocative poetry.

Often a song triggers so much
you remember that one person
that soothes your soul like no one ever could
and you wonder why you let go ....... you end up feeling regret

Something sad and regretful in these lines, Jacob. A one-hit wonder? We all have at least one I guess, I still think about mine.
