Great work. I've been a huge fan of Prince for years now. I'm actually listening to Parade at the moment. Did you catch D'Angelo's tribute to him last night on The Tonight Show?

didn't catch that, Jeff, but thank you for your words,
My daughter is grown, but I dragged her to a late-night, Sunday evening showing of "Purple Rain", just so she would know WHO he was. She couldn't take her eyes off him, and understands now why everyone is aching. I can see that guitar so vividly in your piece. Notes did cry, like everyone now who loved him. Thanks for writing that. ;}

thank you for sharing that experience with your daughter, and your kind words...
I am letting this loss sink in right now. This one has truly depressed me. As much as I want to write about it, I have not yet fully absorbed his passing. I read your poem the day it was posted, and just couldn't even respond. I have carried your words in my heart, letting them settle within my sea of emotions. It is such a heart-rending loss.

So sad ... just read that he was diagnosed with AIDS six months ago
beautiful tribute Jacob...I remember that movie, vaguely, but the moments of it became crystal when I got the news of his passing. He was a giant among the artistic Lilliputians of this time, mastering instrument and voice without the dribble of drum-machine and the overdub of background singers.
Just Prince and a guitar. Or Prince and a keyboard. The song to him was what was most important and
the affects of the song to change and influence opinions whether public or private; historical or futuristic.
I wrote two poems about it.....One a half hearted tribute. The other a maudlin, oversimplified
rant of a middle aged person crying for the soul of another middle aged person. I'm just glad
you are among us my friend.....to make sense of it all....
