Well, money is the root of all evil- that is my point if view. Money doesn't assure you contentment. "Wallet's full, but the soul is empty" Really, good lines there. An empty soul, an avaricious and mean soul which runs after opulence- which keeps on desiring some thing or the other- can never be happy, no matter how heavy one's pocket is.
Beautifully written. Keep writing.
This is something I can very easily relate to I guess. In a way.
I think no matter how much money you have, if you didn't come from it, you'll never feel like that life belongs to you. You'll always feel yourself with torn jeans and a Pepsi. Or a Coke. So don't go chasing after expensive things in search of happiness.
You have such a way of capturing the moment Jacob...money is nothing if the soul is empty...reminds me of the saying that if all someone has is money, they are poor...astringent piece and felt...
I related to this depiction of the shallowness and vapid nature of a certain type of person. Too often people place a value on what is termed 'success', but is really just the acquisition of status, money and material goods. Since when did this become the most important thing in life? For some, like you Jacob, the life of the soul is the most important thing. Thank you for saying it so eloquently.
"Wallet's full, but the soul is empty!" YES YES YES.....this is right up my alley. Give m a Diet Pepsi. No martinis for me. Again, the rat race. Seems like you are on a tangent here....and I am enjoying it. Lydi**
You go around the corners of life, plans firmly rooted into your mind, beauty, meaning fade further from the receptacle of your soul. One day, maybe just before dying, the mind lights up, the jaw drops as OMG screams from the soul.
Great write Jacob!

Al

Money doesn't buy happiness. It helps to solve a lot of problems and live a worriless life packed with material joys but that's it, the soul stays empty and lonely if one doesn't find anything to fill it. You depicted it pretty nicely by alternating between tasty and thoughtful words. I like the repetition: this idle life. Reads well to me.
