Yesterday's Tomorrow

Yesterday's Tomorrow

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Yesterday's Tomorrow

our cuffs touched

in bell bottomed brush

arms entwined,

flashing youthful, whimsical smiles of forever

we might have outwitted ourselves

with denim dreams

but god, it was such pleasure

to wear them

even if now, they hang wrinkled

in a closet of cohabitation

with the other pockets of memory

that no longer fit

but we refuse to throw out

or give to goodwill so another dreamer

might feel the swish

of so many yesterdays

that crease the photograph

of this older man's today

but god, it was such a pleasure
to wear them
the glue to this write- connecting this yesterday's tomorrow

i think when we remember the joy of how these cuffs brushed...
it allows us to again let it happen in our hearts.

All these bell-bottoms poems from you-
I get that you might still have an old pair or two,
but it also feels new.

This is really nice Jacob. Memories and youthful love, especially when it lasts into "closets of cohabitation". Even if the love doesn't last we hold on to the memories.

As we cherish memories, we cherish the objects that defined that period. We can be still proud at the clothes we used to wear even if they belong to another time. Wrinkled as they may be, they match the wrinkles we are showing on our faces. An excellent reminiscing poem...:)................

Yep. You are welcome. ....:))))))
I really like this one Jacob - we hang onto and cherish those memories of our innocence and youth just like the favorite clothes hanging in the closet that we just can't part with - love the analogy as usual :)

Oh, the pockets of those bell bottoms could tell such tales! Even if the denim is threadbare, I will not get rid of one special pair and you know what? If I did give them away, the magic would not be transferred to the next owner anyway. We thought those days would never end.....but, alas, they did. Denim dreams....I think I still dream them in this older lady's today! What great reminiscing in this one, Jacob. Lydi**

We all need a peg to hang our dreams on. They may be memories, which like comfortable
old clothes we are reluctant to dispose of,so we hang on to them in the hope that they may "come back into fashion"'. A moving poem, Jacob, that to me, still offers a hint of optimism.

Like yourself, I'm not as young as I look, and remember the bell-bottomed jeans only too well.

'Wrinkled in a closet of co-habitation' a lovely phrase and wonderful image of growing older together.

I love this.
