to whom it may concern

to whom it may concern

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

to whom it may concern

i have been the "Who"

too long,

the subject doing the action

of giving love

for too many sentences

the "she" always the object of my affection

the "Who" finding his way through clauses

of caresses, causes of duress-es

the immovable pronoun

seeking identity within the opposite gender.

the meaning behind the semantics of giving serenity

while getting calamity

but now,

i want to be the "Whom"

the object of her prepositions,

the direct object of her transitive advances

even the indirect object of her sensual trances

i want to be the pronoun that floats

across her essay

swaying in her breeze

giving in totally to the feeling

enough to send me reeling

to the end of whatever phrase

she casts into the wind

to amaze

"Who am I?"

"Whom is me?"

when i am finally both,

then i will accept us

as we.

I can relate to this, having been on both sides of that equation. There is something about human beings and the way we connect to each other, rarely are we both on the same page at the same time.

I have to admit that I had to read the poem a second time because I couldn't understand a few things during my first try. To me the poem feels like something new because I never thought about being the "Whom". I still love to be "the subject doing the action".
A very nice poem!

Wow two days I miss on reading your works and I alluded myself reading a gem of a write until now. This is absolutely brilliant in so many ways. Not just the analogy but the way you feel immersed wondering "how did I miss something so simple yet so true." The beauty weaved by your words here is one a whole new level for me. There's a sense of rhythm I felt when reading this one which almost made me think this could be a great piece to sing like a Jazz number. ^^ The explanation so clear here that I don't want to waste typing the same thing in bleak words. Thank you for sharing ^^

I like the analogy of some parts of speech with love/relationship. Very clever! Who wouldn't be happy when you read your love one's work which you are the subject?
Thanks for sharing.

Semantic beatitude. I have calculated the identity here as confusion until the final chapter.

"Who are you", ask the owl.

You are amazing! It seems to come so easily to you...to just spin something like this. Can't even find the words to say here.

Your affection for semantics almost outshines your affection for the object of your poem. Or am I being too subjective??? Your usual subtle references still shine through, regardless.

I think I have a new favorite of yours - this is so well written it almost makes too much sense :) I think you are definitely worthy of being the whom Jacob. Your play on words is always entertaining and so enjoyable to read :)
