Maturity

Maturity

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Maturity

when you left me,

i stomped my bare feet on a bed of thorns,

cursed the open window of my world

screamed into the white sheet

words i cannot, here, repeat

and cried like an infant for the teat of sustenance

but i really am trying to grow up,

really,

i am.

Just don't take my toys!

The age never matters.
It always hurts.

Nice one, Jacob.

Maturity....so many different levels to it. When times get tough, I think we all resort to behaviors we learned in childhood. Great metaphor here. Lydi**

And yet the breaking of love to some who feel so deeply, sensitively and poignantly, is never over in many ways...the heart is young when it loves so intently...hard to grow up when it has been touched so intensely :)

We do...always my pleasure Jacob :)
Sometimes we want another person & it's more about ourselves than the other person. Your poem shows us this & the hard work of admitting it & getting beyond it. We are all works in progress, as you poem shows in a gentle way.

When we get hurt, no matter what age we are we can act like a child. The perks of being human, LOL

Most welcome sir.
interesting how adult this tantrum is..
bed of thorns,
white sheet,
words you cannot repeat

then it almost gets awkward- because you can see this adult being so childlike
he remains and adult asking for the teat...
(and I'm a huge, crazy breastfeeding advocate)

interesting. and i like the end.

separation from love has a regressive effect on the human psyche - portrayed very well by the poetic subject - great writing, jacob :)

you're welcome, jacob :)

best,

Your poem vividly pictured a scene about separation, where the one left cries so hard like an infant.
It is not easy to let go someone you love. If I am in the place of the speaker, I won't only cry like that.

Thanks for sharing.

Regardless of age, this is the one time we get to act immature. I really like "i stomped my bare feet on a bed of thorns." Why is it we want to inflict more pain than we are already going through? And it doesn't get any more childish than stomping feet.
