peculiar appetites and odd scars

peculiar appetites and odd scars

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

peculiar appetites and odd scars

i feel as an expectant mother

belly swelling with ideas

a pregnant pause finally ended

there is movement, i can feel it

something rising in the womb of thought

and then,

the idea turns the wrong way

creation upside down,

trying to get out iambic feet first

it just won't right itself,

to emerge,

have to do a C-Section

the pen cuts a line to the heart

of the dream, and a theme

is finally delivered,

a bouncing baby poem

in perfect health, even if a little off

in rhythm, rhyme and meter.

but we love her just the same.

thanks Jacob, now I understand why my belly keeps getting bigger.. too many poems wanting to get out!! and here I thought it was that 3rd helping of pie... ;0)

I am glad you are not wearing protection Jacob, the world is in desparate need of more poetry right now.. And your pregnant poems are more than welcomed... especially if "even a little off/ in rhythm, rhyme and meter." these are the best actually!! And now that you have been C sectioned opened they can just come popping out!!! you now have a new name- "Jacob, the human poetic incubator"!!!

I am having fun with your poem Jacob, just ignore me... I do know and appreciate your creative process, just don't think I am getting you pizza with guacamole and bananas and pistachio ice cream at 3 am.... lol

i strongly relate to this.
The poem came out well.
It will be accepted and loved,;however I can still sense to the labor pains still existing.
it's like a force that can only be quenched when it is spoken and the actual words are never found.
Sure there is a few adoptions now and then that comfort us. But the true bloodline seems lost somewhere.
The actual DNA of the true blood words are as lost as the tribe of Dan.. Scattered and hidden somewhere in creation. Spitting it out? Naw.... This force is more problematic in it's mystery ,seemingly incarcerated to the womb. The laboring struggle, might as well dowse Websters unabridged and see what plumbs, rather then expect the true words to ever be born.
Enslavement to the search? Creation just took a turn, here the crafty, creator concealed within it's own womb.
I must stop now. I must emerge.... the depth ............ i need an umbilical cord to breathe

wow - i am a nurse - so i appreciate this write very much - the joy and celebration in giving birth to a poem - the labor is steep and arduous - but the poem will always be beautiful in the eyes of the writer and its doting readers :)
