Walk down any city street, and there is this diner. Seeing this vivid portrait, I have no complaints...

we are lucky to have what we have....thank you for your thoughts, Rita.

Crackers and ketchup....how sad that some eat that for dinner and think it is gourmet because that is all they can afford. Those dining at the Ritz would not give him a second glance and would think they are better than the dumpster diver. Interesting dichotomy here.....life is not always judged as it should be. Lydi**

a brilliant play on words here -- emphasizes the disparity between the person doing the dining and the world in which he lives.

My heart is pulling apart

these words put so much into perspective

i always sit with these boys ..... they have so much pride
dinning at the Ritz applies so much in their decorum

humanity has imbalanced priorities
and i am definitely one to admit it

At first blush this may seem to some to be "cute..." But reality intrudes to drum home the point that this is how the less fortunate find subsistence. Well worded with a strong point. take care...dan

This really packed a hard punch, Jacob. Reminded me of an old song about "One Meat Ball" .
You said so much in twelve words that reflected the lives of countless down and outs.

Damn this one hit me hard. If I am not wrong Ritz is one of the more well known hotel establishments in the States. Fact is poverty is something that is visible to me the moment I step outside my door. What flashes in front of me how the little children are scavenging though the dumps looking for tight packaged poly bag and then you have the dogs right behind them waiting for their chance to dine at this gourmet restaurant...... Well about the Senryu itself, good use of alliteration: Dumpster dive in the second line a it does a good job invoking imagery. ^^ Thank you for sharing.

poverty is a face i see everywhere, especially in third world countries - poverty is high in the philippines - the delight in this poem over simple joys makes me cringe for every time i acted spoiled and discontented over what i have - an eye-opener
