guinea pigs and love equationsA Poem by jacob erin-cilberto
for you
i was a simulated relationship a trial run, scientific experiment,
so to speak much margin for error
either way made you feel safe,
and then love trumped
the formulaic theme the numbers went out the
window with the breeze that
blew out your comfortable candle a flicker, then
instability i became matter that
mattered
a test that couldn't be
retaken the pass/fail element
composed itself as empirical reality,
your stoic smile
cracked, the pen in your heart
moved slightly toward? true or false A or B or C or all of the above,
the lab filled with
indecision, your heart dissecting
components of choice as i waited,
probabilities on the
table, thinking forward and
backward all at once.
