Cinderella's Eccentric Nightlife

Cinderella's Eccentric Nightlife

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Cinderella's Eccentric Nightlife

splayed legs,

she's given herself again,

foolish knave spreading her freedom

but the soiled reputation

fills the cracks of what some call justice

others call necessary casualties of the night

when did America prostitute Lady Liberty

for pocket change,

then leave her stranded on an island

with a burned out torch,

and sore bare feet

because she left her glass slippers

somewhere she wasn't supposed to be.

Not what I was expecting with the title, but surprise can be a very good thing. The pivot from the rather comic opening image to the edgier finish is handled deftly. This is the good stuff.

The disillusionment palpable, the imagery absolutely great, gets the point across. Really great poem.

Lady Liberty will be crying before this election year is over. I am so unhappy with ALL the candidates on both sides of the aisle. The glass slippers are shattered and Prince Charming has left for parts unknown. Good one, Jacob. Lydi**

Yes, the race for freedom has left Lady Liberty feeling used!

thank you for your words, Tomas.

You can massage Lady Liberty's feet all you want. Her gait will never be the same.

A scent of jaded mist in the political breath.

Regards,
Al

Gee
America's perceived "arrogance" that it is without doubt the biggest, best, most powerful will never help its cause, and now you have Donald Trump aiding and abetting

Although this was obviously written as an "angry" poem, I see it more as one of sadness that a great and respected nation has allowed itself to be manipulated by wealth and political ambition. Now a universal problem, unfortunately.

So much truth the weak, tired, and weary can only say..This a masterful piece, which capture your alienated message in such thoughts on breathlessness. Excellent piece

She has made a habit of the jaunts, and each time we seem to lose something. Now I'm wondering if it is not all integrity. Have we truly.progressed or is it just a word to quiet the masses? Nicely done j.

i'm not too good at interpreting (or writing!) this kind of poem but I have the feeling you are talking about the chasm between Americas founding principles and some of the recent blemishes on her character - guantanamo and Iraq come to mind. It is very good!
