Vultures Cry for Relief

Vultures Cry for Relief

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Vultures Cry for Relief

millionaire babies

become gutter rats

in high fashion footwear

and moth eaten fur

mismatching socks

mismatching eyes

darting directionless as the quarter shines

and a perfectly manicured hand reaches

somewhere in a dark nightfall

where the towers toppled

and the streets once paved with gold

are cluttered with the rubble

of a silver spooned life so tarnished

that plastic mid-wives deliver whiskey moods

from half empty bottles, reeled in from a sea of refuse

the rust green boats

giving some warmth at evening's apology

when the lid closes tightly enough

and the stench is a hard pillow

to swallow,

the fall from grace

now much maligned

no act of contrition

can fatten the wallet again,

and vanity wore out with first pair

of faded jeans,

the last ones with the Jordache label

the last of the emperor's rags

he'd taken with him,

as the Church door slammed

him into feathered madness.

A very bleak picture of humanity I feel here, where everything we do is superficial, and the vultures have too much to do. (one question, is emperor/s intentional? It usually is with you.

I'm in awe of your incredible use of rich metaphors depicting shallowness that
materialism {greed} , brings as well, as a sense of haughty cynicism
..brilliant duration & execution.

your pen never fails to captive the reader with your compelling ink drops
Thank you for sharing, Sir.
