Lock BoxA Poem by jacob erin-cilbertoLock Box
you
approached my heart like it was walking on
the boulevard among street hustlers
there is always a price,
for a night of loving, a month, a year of hopeful
engaging, wispy dreams of forever
wearing out their shoes
all the enticing smiles
provoking the emotional wallet to magically appear,
"how much?" he
secrets to her, "let's talk price,
later" she confides
he takes her hand, and they walk to the
moon, spend a short eternity
in the back seat of a rising star
then suddenly, he wakes
up in a dark sky with an empty billfold, and indifference locked
away in an impenetrable vault of wizened, cynical
years.
