A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

extra tutoring

spit shined, patent leather smoke

emotions on fire,

4th grade sway

she passes my desk,

i stare into the inkwell,

no words, just a crimson face

embarrassed expression mum

i write her beauty in my mind

young heart aflutter with intentions

dreaming during recess

of access to her smile

but i know for me,

there will only be a passing fancy

she won't notice my trembling pen

trying to get the courage

to whisper "hello"

into her waiting arms

and the lips craving to be part

of her lunch---

so i can carry her books home from school

for the rest of our lives.

This is great Jacob. You capture the insecurity and the innocence of childlike love even us grown ups must somehow process.
This resonates.
