extra tutoringA Poem by jacob erin-cilbertoextra tutoring
spit
shined, patent leather smoke emotions on fire, 4th grade sway
she passes my
desk, i stare into the
inkwell, no words, just a crimson
face embarrassed expression
mum
i write her beauty in my
mind young heart aflutter
with intentions dreaming during recess of access to her smile
but i know for me, there will only be a
passing fancy she won't notice my
trembling pen
trying to get the
courage to whisper
"hello" into her waiting arms
and the lips craving to
be part of her lunch---
so i can carry her books
home from school for the rest of our
lives.
