4th grade, her name was Donna, I did get to carry her books home from school and then she bit me and ran away... remember we would send our classmates valentines cards, well she sent me one of those BIG cards instead of one of those usual cut out ones.. it was a lacy heart with a big "Be Mine" in the inside... I guess I tasted good or something.. lol. But my big crush came crashing down cause she moved away the following week... is it true Jacob you get "bitten" before you get kissed??
wow, memories from a long time ago just leaped into my head.. thanks Jacob.. perhaps I should have taken this as a sign I would always get "bitten" when it came to love... funny how different 4th grade experiences can still end up in the same place...

loved your story...oh Donna, oh Donna..."since she left me, i've never been the same"
Beautiful Jacob! The inkwell gave me a sense of nostalgia and the "access to her smile" is such a sweet visual and the carrying of the books for the rest of time reminds me of such a time of innocence and all is possible in the heart :)

ahhh, yes.. I had such a crush once or twice, and yes, I did carry her books, it was quite bittersweet. , (not to mention an affair with one of my college instructors, but that's another story).. nicely done, my friend!

This one got an "AWWWWW" from me. Puppy love....almost always unrequited. One person feels it more than life itself and the other is oblivious. So it shall ever be. The image of carrying her books home brought back memories for me. I liked this. Lydi**

I suppose there's a reason that youth is wasted on the young--you reach a certain age, and it's too much to bear. The horrible hunger of youth, well writ.

thank you for your kind words, and the smile, W.k.
what a marvelous revisiting of the 4th grade for me .. i remember her still ... she captured my heart for the better part of grade school ... finally breached the chasm in secrecy using invisible ink from the downtown hobby store ... she knew it was me but i was still to "crimson face(d)" to own up to it ... i love this poem ..perfect for the Valentines coming up ..thanks for sharing jacob!
