Times change, as do perceptions and expectations, but I say Bah! to all that; and venture that perhaps today's society has the educational system it deserves.
I understand what you are saying here, but the day that the high and noble task of knowledge shared becomes to hard a burden to bear, is the day the wall comes tumbling down for good.

Hahaha. I love the title.
I do a bit of teaching myself and the worst part of the job is being the nemesis as you describe. And don't get me started on the crumbling mortar! When education becomes irrelevant, students switch off.

It can be a lot of fun. But now that I'm teaching them English for Academic Purposes, I have to fail them sometimes and that's no fun. And I'm starting BA in Eng Lit and Psych this semester. Busy times!

Who knows? At the moment I'm doing it for the love of it. I'm probably more inclined towards the psy.. read moreWho knows? At the moment I'm doing it for the love of it. I'm probably more inclined towards the psychology side of things right now but that may change. English Lit is without a doubt the more engaging of the 2 areas for me....poetry especially.
