While some believe aging is gruesome, i say you become even truer to your real self as you age. It's like with age the wine tastes even better. True that our physical appearance changes over the years, but our spirit remains the same, or rather we become even truer to ourselves as we age, thus there is always a chance of regrets popping up as well, but at the same time you are happy about being more you than ever. Maybe as we age we keep as much of our good side as possible, while taking a chance to overcome our shortcomings if possible. but then again this is just my interpretation. As usual I enjoyed this read ^^

If we were cars Jacob, we would be called classics. We still get where we're going, it just takes us a little longer to complete the journey. Still reliable(ish) after all these years :)

I spend time Every day with my 74 yr old neighbour. And there hasnt been a day i havent enjoyed his stories and wisdom.

The body may wither but spirit endures. The 'reckless abandon of age' really states how whilst we strive to formulate our path it's the other travellers who will define it. This is a texturally rich piece J.
So much life suffuses the time capsule of the body! We spend years filling our tank with the fuel of life, but time has a way of rusting the tank. We can only hope that the fuel, when evaporated, drifts to the heavens, becomes a greater energy, and lives beyond the knowable now.
It sounds as if your father has had a wonderful ride. God bless him and your family, Jacob.
I finished reading this poem and i was like yes!!! then i went blank, what other words should i add to that yes..perhaps this means is that no review is long enough for me to say how much i have enjoyed reading this poem. Thank you for putting it here

Hi Jacob. This is such a beautiful reflection and understanding that although time may blur the outside edges, inside, the essence of all that we are remains constant and indelibly imprinted both in our minds and the hearts and minds of those who know and love us.
Beccy.
PS. I read your replies to T and softlyfall and was put in mind of the following lines written by Hemingway.
“I had an inheritance from my father,
It was the moon and the sun.
And though I roam all over the world,
The spending of it’s never done.”
96, you are so fortunate.

thank you...so many miles,...hard to get to see him...but what time we get...it's special.
what an enriched tapestry of dreamy, yet profound
imagery your pen weaved into this write...
the last stanza seems to me that you've captured
the essence of either "the hermit" or J.R.R. Tolkien' s
"Gandalf". .. one that is wanderer and sage. the title captured
my attention...very befitting for this amazing ink that has
taken me away for a bit!
I thank you for sharing your gift for words with us all!
