the missing sun

the missing sun

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the missing sun

the sterile logic of a stalled movement

intentions are irrelevant

when the dye is cast

in the wrong direction

and years go backward on the canvas

like a fighter pregnant with fear

we root from the grandstands

while forgetting that all roots grow something significant

even the weeds have purpose,

but baby flowers grow together in the same garden

unlike humans

must be

too much rain in our hearts,

not enough love to reach towards.

The missing source of light
to truly see
giving out a hand and learning to be compassionate towards all

Some people have no sun

I love it

thank you for your insightful words, RS..

This reads of misconception. It reads very much like the fear transfixed lives of disempowered assumptions. What are we rooted in?
A sad poem to my eye, because it doesn't need to be true...

not enough love to reach towards...... I love how in my mind the next words should be the missing sun, but it is missing so you excluded them for that reason, at least in my head.
Stalled movement, wrong direction, pregnant with fear, then the even more reflective "even the weeds have purpose, but baby flowers grow together in the same garden" which says so much more than it's parts. I read reflections of our own man made faults in this piece Jacob. Even the too much rain part feels not anger or bitter, but almost child like plea for sunnier days.
I love how your work always evokes something in me Jacob, even if it is only my misreading.

"Even the weeds have purpose" and so it is and always shall be. It is the weeds that renew the soil so the others can continue to grow. They pull in the waste of others and pour out something new, vibrant and necessary, even if it is not recognized.
I like the way you end this with the ambiguous reaching toward. Even when were reaching out to nothingness, we are truly reaching toward something, so the ending needs no object. That object is whatever the individual wants it to be. love.

Trust me when I say, it is returned in kind!
Even weeds have purpose; maybe to remind us our need for regulation and order is as futile as a snipe hunt.
