an engineer's spaceship to eternityA Poem by jacob erin-cilberto
i used
to know you before the whiskers the gray below the ears, the musky odor of age,
the mathematical mind
that put an answer to any problem a child
could venture into, always a solution, a sum
of the parts of the father's wishes
for his son to divide his life with
love and find a quotient that
reverberates success
i used to know you
before the whiskers the distant look in your
eye the tremble, the weak walk toward the
heaven you will certainly
adhere to when you meet the next
galaxy
i used to know you, i hope to again someday.
