an engineer's spaceship to eternity

an engineer's spaceship to eternity

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

an engineer's spaceship to eternity

i used to know you before the whiskers

the gray below the ears,

the musky odor of age,

the mathematical mind that put an answer

to any problem a child could venture into,

always a solution, a sum of the parts

of the father's wishes for his son to

divide his life with love

and find a quotient that reverberates success

i used to know you before the whiskers

the distant look in your eye

the tremble,

the weak walk toward the heaven

you will certainly adhere to

when you meet the next galaxy

i used to know you,

i hope to again someday.

The familiarity of old friends reads clearly.
I like the thought of sticking to the heavens. It is a kind way to be opened to the possibilities...
I'm sure the feeling was mutual.

I'm sorry you has sorrow behind this inspired write. It was delivered with elegant quietness.
An honest description of aging relationally without maudling into sentimentality. He must be some guy to have known, and know.

he certainly is...thank you for your extended visit, ian...

And in the knowing, he ever will be. His being is a part of you, embedded in your heart, and flowing in your veins. You bring him to life in you, through you, until you meet again. Beautiful!

Beautiful images of father and son. I too thought of my own Dad who passed away at the early age of 52. I am happy that I will see him again! This one is a keeper for me J! ~SP

There are those you fervently wish to see, again; those you hope will yearn to see you, again.
Someday, dear friends, in the next galaxy!
A profoundly insightful, beautifully composed, piece of work!

I love the emotional feel that drives your father to the galaxies. I have those same hopes of seeing souls I knew in life.
