Dang Jacob! This is cold brother! (Pardon the pun).
I could feel the misery here. The freezing cold is brutal and heartless... I hope you don't have any cavities or that mouth full of snow is gonna hurt something fierce. Go figure; pain no matter what you do.
Very fine write.
Heartbreaking the chill of someone packing a bag in silence, and how you have described it here " so I will try to mouth a snowflake" was a killer line, "my lips will freeze either way" ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! was almost orgasmic :P again you have mouthed a metaphoric blizzard, but at the same time it so very sad, especially when you (one) has so much to say but only the hurt comes out instead.
You always paint with such extravagant colors, my friend. It is a joy to read your words and to wander their paths through the mind. Taking often common elements, and transforming them into enchanted soul places.
This reminds me of when I was little and got my tongue stuck to the porch window trying to lick the ice from it. Friendly advise, pour some warm water over them lips before you try to pull em' apart hahahahaha
"(W) oolen increments/of grief" is one hell of a phrase, and I'm more than a little jealous of it, ditto "try to mouth a snowflake". As the wise Mr. Yetts noted, the relationship may not have been a winner, but the poem most certainly is.
After all those spitting attempts, mouthing a snowflake seems rather genteel and extremely artistic.
A unique notion that I very much like.
"Kissing Icicles" ain't bad, either.
Though the piece is a bit of a bummer, it is high in literary quality and carries a definite wallop!
